Irene Hofmeijer - keynote speaker

Irene was born in Peru, raised in Switzerland, and studied in Canada, finishing her Bachelors degree in environmental sciences at McGill University. She is passionate about the environment and fascinated by physical geography. She returned to Peru and got involved with environmental health research projects for indigenous communities in the Peruvian Amazon called Indigenous Health Adaptation to Climate Change. She is the founder of the social enterprise Life Out Of Plastic (L.O.O.P.). L.O.O.P.'s mission is "to raise awareness about plastic pollution using market tools to fund educational campaigns". At the 2013 UN SEED awards ceremony in Kenya, she was given the Premio Protagonista del Cambio award for her organization L.O.O.P.
She has also been chosen by the Peruvian government to host and preside the UNFCCC COP 20/CMP10, assuming the position of Official Liaison for Youth within the Civil Society team.
