Lorena Aguilar -Keynote speaker
Lorena Aguilar is IUCN's Global Senior Gender Advisor. She has over 25 years of experience in projects and initiatives involving public policy development, building local institutions and the incorporation of social and gender issues into development.
Lorena has established and consolidated the IUCN Global Gender Office, which is the preferred partner for international governments and non-governmental organizations seeking to promote gender equality and women empowerment for achieving biodiversity conservation and sustainable development. Lorena provides assistance to international organizations, governments and universities on gender policy, gender equality and women's empowerment, as well we water, environmental health and disaster risk reduction. She has created and is part of some of the most influential international gender networks; e.g. the Network of Women Ministers and Leaders of the Environment and the Global Gender and Climate Alliance.
Lorena was born in San José, Costa Rica and has a Master’s degree in Anthropology with a major in Cultural Ecology. She is the author of over 70 publications.
