GIN Session 1 Friday, Nov 21 3:00-4:00pm
Option 1 - Title: "Bridging the Empathy Gap: The Environmental Empathy Museum"
Room: SS1-101
School: American School Foundation of Guadalajara
Location: Guadalajara, Mexico
Workshop Description:
ASFG GIN recognizes that one of the reasons why so many citizens of the first world make choices that are not environmentally friendly is the lack of empathy for the who/what is affected most by these choices. This gap exists across time, as people are often unable to connect current actions to future outcomes. It also exists across space – given the great physical distance between first and third-world countries. One possible way to bridge this gap is to make these connections more evident through a hands-on “empathy” museum - one that makes the connections between choices (causes) and effects much more evident to the viewer due to the hands-on nature of the feature exhibits. We will propose a design for a student driven museum that any school could implement. Sample exhibits will be shared, as well an opportunity for groups to brainstorm their own exhibits, possible challenges, and other conditions that may affect the plausibility of opening a museum on their own premises.

Workshop Description:
Our workshop aims to present Social Entrepreneurs of Tomorrow as a platform appropriate to catalyze the development of solutions to water deficits by connecting students through workshops, giving them the resources to create solutions, and provide opportunities for collaboration with Social Entrepreneurs and mentors to create meaningful impact. Our workshop will engage participants in an activity that shows what skills are taught to SET members and educate participants about the significant potential of Teenage Social Entrepreneurship.
Plan for Sustainability:
A network of High School SET Clubs under the online SET platform will be sustainably run by active student leaders that accumulate community data about created solutions that can be scaled by SET members in other schools, about experienced Social Entrepreneurs in their respective location, and engaging collaboration between SET clubs.

Title: Global Climate Change: Sustainable Transportation
Room: SS1-103
School: Colegio Franklin Delano Roosevelt The American School of Lima, Peru
Location: Lima, Peru
Workshop Description:
For our workshop we have decided to get everyone in groups of 3/or take 3 volunteers (this depends on the amount of people in our audience). Each one person/group will get an iPad where they will complete a carbon footprint on their transportation. Then we will give each group a visual representation on how many emissions they take. Finally, we would ask each group/person to make a list of ideas of their solutions to reducing their footprint. This will help the audience and us presenters to see everyones footprint and to relate and compare to everyones daily transportation routine. Since this is group collaboration, we want everyone to collaborate in giving ideas to be more sustainable with their transportation. Our goal is to have everyone leave our presentation with a knowledge on how to change their transportation to be more sustainable.
Plan for Sustainability:
Our plan is to take initiative into this project and actually make this solution possible for our school and for others. We would like to influence others in listening to our presentation so they could be informed and make a change to their community.
In five years, I think that we would have at least have presented our presentation in many different school to raise awareness. Also, in our school we would like to have all our bus system to run on natural gas and also for the buses to be bigger.
We would have liked to continue raising awareness and influencing others and to also accomplish to have at least 5 schools to change their buses into natural gas.
